3000sqmm Trickle Vents

The general rules for ventilating a room to comply with  UK Building Regulations are:

 

Whole Building - this is also known as trickle ventilation which can be incorporated in to the head of the window (or door) framework, or by some other means.

 

The area varies on the type of room:

 

Habitable room - 5,000 mm² equivalent area (ie, 2 of our 3000sqmm trickle vents, ideally at opposite sides of the room to get through ventilation)

Kitchen, utility, bathroom (with or without WC) - 2,500 mm² equivalent area

 

(This is in addition to "Purge" - this is achieved by opening the window. The opening should have a typical area of at least 1/20th of the floor area of the room served, unless it is a bathroom which can be any openable size).

 

Our self-install trickle vents are very easy to fit -

1. Mark out the trickle vent area on the frame by tracing around it.
2. Drill 2 small holes (3 or 4 mm) all the way through the frame, no closer than 35mm to each end of the traced area (so you have a pilot hole visible from both sides of the frame for the larger drill bit in the next stage of the operation).
3. Change to a 13mm drill bit and drill just over half way through from either side of the frame to connect up without splitting the timber out (which would happen if you try to drill all the way through from just 1 side)
4. Drill a series of 10mm holes within the confines of the traced area to form a slot.
5. Screw the 2 parts of the trickle vents onto the window or door frame directly over the holesusing the screws provided (insect vent to the outside)
